The Cause

By Anne Marie Corrigan

The Cause centres on two brothers, THOMAS and PEARSE and their mother NAN O’SULLIVAN, who is keen for her sons to continue to fight for “the cause” of a united Ireland in the late 1930s, at a time when this aim has become less popular in the country, and when the impending threat of war in Europe looms large. The brother’s close relationship is complicated by their growing feelings towards neighbour MAUD, and by the choices they make – to fight for the cause or not.
